Load DEIMOS firmware

The Load DEIMOS firmware dialog lets you update the firmware on DEIMOS hardware boards directly from MotioForge Studio, without external tools. It opens from the DEIMOS → Load DEIMOS firmware menu in the start window.

Loading procedure

  1. Connect the DEIMOS board to the computer via USB cable.
  2. Open the dialog from the DEIMOS → Load DEIMOS firmware menu.
  3. Select the firmware package from the list (packages are distributed with MotioForge Studio).
  4. Select the COM port to which the board is connected.
  5. Click Load and wait for completion. The log shows progress.

Package selection

FieldDescription
PackageList of .deimospkg files available in MotioForge Studio resources. Each package contains a specific firmware version with its manifest.
Show all versionsWhen unchecked, only the latest firmware version for each hardware is shown; when checked, all versions found are shown.
Firmware informationAutomatically shows the version, description, and supported hardware for the selected package.

Port selection

FieldDescription
PortThe COM port to which the DEIMOS board being updated is physically connected.
RefreshRe-detects the available firmware packages and serial ports on the system (useful if the board was connected after opening the dialog).

Checks on the connected board

The Detect board button opens the selected port and shows which board is connected and which DEIMOS version is installed (the board restarts). The same check runs automatically before every upload:

SituationWhat happens
The connected board differs from the package's board (e.g. ESP32 package on a Mega)Upload blocked.
The board cannot be recognized: DEIMOS does not answer and the USB adapter is generic (CH340, CP210x)You are asked to confirm.
The board runs a newer DEIMOS version than the one you are uploadingYou are asked to confirm; if you go back to a version earlier than 2.0 you are reminded that parametrized animations will not work.
Same version, upgrade, or board without DEIMOSJust a note in the log.

The board is recognized from the DEIMOS answer (from 2.0 it reports board=) or from the USB identity of original boards (for example Arduino Mega 2560). After the upload ARES reads the version again: if the board does not answer with the version just uploaded, the final message says so.

Upload log

The text area shows all stages of the process in real time: package integrity verification, decryption, upload via arduino-cli, board reboot. In case of error the log indicates the cause.

Note: MotioForge Studio automatically closes the COM port before starting the upload to avoid conflicts with arduino-cli. After completion the port is not reopened automatically: use the buttons in the port console or start playback.

Supported hardware

The current DEIMOS firmware version supports:

Consult the manifest of the selected package for the updated list of supported element types (SERVO_BUS, SERVO_PWM, SWITCH).

If the upload fails with "port busy" or "access denied", check that no other software (Arduino IDE, serial terminal) is using the same COM port.
